BIOGRAPHY
For the past 27 years, Betty Danner has worked in both
government and business. Since 1998, she has worked as a
consultant both to small business and to the County of
Santa Cruz for public safety and anti-crime programs.
She has served as a senior administrative analyst in the
Santa Cruz County Administrative Office and as executive
director of the county Criminal Justice Council.
Recognized as an able, prudent and effective
administrator, Betty Danner has been helping those she
serves by finding ways to get things done. She bridged
the gap between business and government, understanding
the challenges of both local government and small
business. Her experience resides in understanding
people. She’s found funding for important government
programs, and has discovered new paths for businesses as
they grow.
Her work with the Criminal Justice Council is
particularly noteworthy. She coordinated efforts by law
enforcement for the County of Santa Cruz as well as for
four incorporated cities: Santa Cruz, Watsonville,
Scotts Valley and Capitola. In that role she focused on
inter-jurisdictional criminal justice issues. By finding
new funding as well as coordinating inter-department
personnel, Betty Danner implemented innovative programs
like the Santa Cruz County Drug Court, a highly praised
program that has made significant inroads into
drug-related crime and has provided a path for those
making the effort to become drug-free. She also created
and found funding for a coordinated effort to train
law-enforcement officers in domestic violence
prevention, and that program similarly has been praised
both locally and statewide.
Betty Danner specialized in administrative and budget
analysis at the County Administrative Office. It was
there that she grew to understand the arcane world of
governmental budgeting. A skill that will be invaluable
on the Board of Supervisors.
More impressive than her resume are her personal
accomplishments, which revolve around community service.
Betty Danner has been active in a variety of roles, both
paid and unpaid. She served as an advisory board member
of Friends of CASA, the Court Appointed Special
Advocates, a community organization that helps abused
and neglected children. She has been a director of the
Children’s Network of Santa Cruz County, and has served
the board president of Above the Line, an organization
to help homeless young people. In the 1980s, she was
president of the statewide Probation Business Managers
Association.
Betty Danner has her cultural interests as well. She has
served as vice president of museum development for the
Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center in
Santa Cruz.
Betty Danner’s blend of experience and knowledge of
Santa Cruz County – and the First District in particular
– will continue the much-needed spirit of independence
that is a hallmark of the First District. She is a
public servant who has already had a career. She is
ready to serve the people of the First District. |
